Palms and tropical plants have fibrous roots; like turf grass, they thrive with frequent water and can survive droughts. Plant palms in soil that drains water well. Create a nice mound around the root zone. Use the extra soil dug out when planting to create this watering well. Then, flood to saturate the root zone.
