Grow Your Own Blueberry
It’s a sweet and satisfying experience to pick a blueberry grown yourself. Blueberries grow easily as upright woody shrubs or train them to climb over a trellis like a grape vine. Native to North America, blueberries are sweet, juicy, delicious flavor fruit that is high in vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants. Eat blueberries fresh, in juice, dried, and made to jams and jellies.
Blueberries grow well in the full sun near the coast such as Malibu, Santa Monica, and in mild areas like Beverly Hills. However, inland the Summers can be very hot. Plant your blueberry in the morning sun and afternoon shade to prevent the sunburn of the leaves if inland such as Los Angeles, Burbank, Glendale, and the San Fernando Valley.
Plant in soil that drains well and water your newly planted blueberry 1-2 times per week, and provide light fertilizer. Enjoy the fun of seeing Spring bell-shaped white flowers and heavy Summer harvests.
