I’m looking to purchase a Hass Avocado in the 24” box - is the tree able to stay in the box on a patio, or does it need to be planted in the ground or repotted?
Avocado trees are best planted in the ground as they will get larger and produce more fruit that way. However, if you want to keep one on your patio to improve the area, you may run into heat issues from sunlight reflecting off the patio. This can cause stress, damage leaves, and stunt growth, especially if planted south-facing in areas with hot summers. Spray water on the avocado tree's leaves and the surrounding area to cool the plant down during the hottest part of the day in the summertime. This will help prevent the leaves from burning, keeping your tree healthy. Selecting a container size large enough to hold the tree's roots long-term and watering properly are key. Plant a 24" Box Avocado tree in a 36" - 48" diameter container for the best long-term success of an avocado tree on your patio.
