Known as either Persian Sweet Lime or Sweet Lemon, as it is sometimes called this is yet another variety of citrus that originated in the Southern regions of Iran. The fruit is sweet and juicy, it grows into a medium sized round shape and yellow in color when fully ripe. The fruit is ready when it reaches a deep yellow color. This beautiful evergreen tree produces pleasantly aromatic blossoms and fruits multiple times a year. Persian sweet limes/lemons are often eaten fresh, like an orange that has no acidity. It is used as a cold remedy to help sore throats and rejuvenate the body. The tree is relatively small, but strong that can grow up to 20 feet tall. It has 1 to 3 inch thorns with compound leaves, acuminate leaflets, and winged petioles. The flavor of the fruit is very easily distinguished from other citrus due to its delicate sweet taste and aroma. Persian Sweet Lime/Lemon has very little seeds, a soft rind, and lacks acidity. Not frost tolerant.
